The last 12months have been difficult for us all, we are all working and living in unprecedented times, and are still getting used to a different normal. The cardboard and packaging industry is no exception, with us getting used to a different market and trading conditions.
Cardboard boxes have been a product that has always been readily available in the market place. However, due to the current high demand and shortage of supply of the base paper materials, we all face a very different market place. We are fully aware that many base cardboard materials are currently on lead times of up to 3 months from order.
To date the BBC news website, The Telegraph and most recently The Times Newspaper have been reporting and highlighting the difficulties facing everyone at present within the cardboard supply chain.
As an industry and a product (cardboard), current times require a lot more planning by all parts of the supply chain. From the raw material through production to the point of arrival at our customers.
As the year progresses supplies of cardboard will remain tight and in some cases on longer lead times than we are all used to. With this in mind, we ask all our customers to plan ahead.
We are planning as far ahead as possible and have taken on extra storage space this year for this very reason.
We appreciate that, as a company and an industry, we are not a special case and do not expect or deserve to be treated differently. All we, as a company, are trying to do is pass on as much information so our customers can make informed decisions and reduce the impact the current situation has on their businesses.
